Islamabad has taken over the rotating chairmanship of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the month of July, which is a reflection of Pakistan’s diplomatic achievements and advancements.
Pakistan was appointed vice-chair of the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) Counter-Terrorism Committee, which is responsible for supervising the implementation of resolution 1373 (2001) pertaining to international anti-terror efforts. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the development in a post on X.
The nation started its ninth two-year term (2025–26) as a non-permanent member of the 15-member council in January of this year.
Five of the 15 members of the UNSC are permanent members: the United States, China, France, Russia, and Britain.
