LAHORE: Starting at 5 a.m. on Thursday, Lahore was battered by heavy rain for more than six hours, flooding low-lying regions, halting traffic, and causing structural damage in multiple districts throughout Punjab.
Around 11:30 am, the rain ceased, but WASA crews are still working on drainage.
Rainwater entered residences in Dharampura, Shah Jamal, Choburji, and the adjacent areas, while Nishtar Town received the most rainfall (182 mm). Particularly at underpasses and along main routes, cars and motorcyclists were stuck in deep water.
In Shah Jamal, a mosque and a house were also inundated. Five persons, including a lady and two children, were killed and numerous more were injured in wall and roof collapse incidents that were recorded in Lahore, Okara, Sheikhupura, and Pattoki.
