KARACHI: Senior provincial minister Sharjeel Memon announced on Thursday that the Sindh government has evacuated nine structures in Lyari that were deemed hazardous.
In the dense inner-city Lyari district, where many working-class and impoverished families reside in aging apartment complexes, a multi-story residential building fell last week.
According to Memon, the government has already begun tearing down one of Lyari’s run-down structures. He added that the impacted families would receive three months’ worth of rent.
According to the minister, all personnel have been given a 15-day deadline by the newly appointed director general of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to submit their asset details.
Additionally, he declared that those engaged in allowing the illegal development will face severe consequences.
