ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, Jamshed Dasti, a member of the National Assembly, was eliminated by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for possessing a phony degree.
The development follows the electoral body’s approval of two petitions against Dasti, including one that was referred by the speaker of the National Assembly and sought his disqualification.
The three-member commission panel ruled in writing today that the seat was vacant as a result of the disqualification of the politician.
Dasti “has committed the offense of corrupt practices defined under Sections 167 and 173 of the Elections Act, 2017, punishable under Section 174 of the Election Act, 2017,” it said, “by making false statements and incorrect declarations.”
