Today (Tuesday) marks the anniversary of the death of Fouzia Azeem, also known as Qandeel Baloch, the social media star who was murdered by her brother in 2016.
Muhammad Waseem, Baloch’s brother, strangled her to death after calling her suggestive social media behavior “intolerable.”
Her July 15, 2016, murder caused a great deal of outrage among local and worldwide celebrities, civil society, and human rights advocates. Protests calling for an end to honor killings and violence against women in Pakistan were triggered by the occurrence.
The murder was openly denounced by prominent Pakistani individuals, including Meesha Shafi, Nadia Hussain, Osman Khalid Butt, and Sanam Baloch. International celebrities have expressed their disapproval, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Rakhi Sawant, Miley Cyrus, Madonna, and Khloé Kardashian.
