KARACHI: The roof of a residential building collapsed Thursday in the packed inner-city Lyari area, killing two people and injuring three more in another terrible event in the capital.
Less than two weeks have passed since a multi-story residential structure collapsed in the same region, killing 27 people and leaving numerous others injured.
Many working-class and impoverished families reside in the aging apartment complexes in Lyari.
Police officials say the tragedy happened in Lyari’s Khadda Market district when the sixth-story roof collapsed, plummeting onto the fifth floor below. As soon as the tragedy was reported, rescue efforts were initiated.
