Following fruitful discussions between the administration and the opposition, the 26 opposition members who had been suspended for interfering with the budget session of the Punjab Assembly have been reinstated.
The legislators were already suspended by Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan for causing a disturbance and interfering with the June 27 budget session. He also threatened to take further action against them and even planned to submit a report to the Pakistani Election Commission. They were subject to further disciplinary actions, including salary deductions, suspension, and a fine of more than Rs2 million.
However, the assembly’s negotiation committee helped both sides come to an agreement, ending the political impasse.
