Even though the third monsoon wave is predicted to arrive in Karachi tomorrow, the city’s drainage drains are still clogged with trash and waste.
The Johar Nullah at Gulistan-e-Jauhar is still overflowing with trash, which raises the possibility of urban flooding when the rains start. Residents of the area complained that no proper cleaning is done despite the drains overflowing annually after rainfall.
One resident said, “We have never seen proper cleaning of this drain,” underscoring the ongoing carelessness of local government officials.
Residents worry that if immediate action is not made to clean the drains in time, the city’s flooding from prior years would occur again as it gets ready for heavy rains.
