LAHORE: An Orange Line official said on Tuesday that Lahore is now preparing to welcome electric trams as part of its public transportation network, following the successful launch of electric buses.
In a further step toward a more environmentally friendly and sustainable municipal transit system, the authorities have ordered these trams from China.
The representative claims that the new electric trams are incredibly efficient and can go 25 to 27 kilometers on a single 10-minute charge.
The three-compartment (three-box) design of each tram will allow it to accommodate up to 250 passengers at once.
“The assembly of the first three-compartment trams is currently underway at the Ali Town Depot,” said a spokeswoman.
