ISLAMABAD: In a corruption case brought by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the Supreme Court cleared former Pakistan Tobacco Board (PTB) deputy secretary Sardar Hussain, overturning previous convictions from the trial and high courts.
In a 14-page detailed opinion, a three-member bench presided over by Justice Athar Minallah found that Hussain’s corruption charges had not been proven.
“Considering the aforementioned, we are confident that the case against the petitioner has not been proven and that the offense under section 9(a)(vi) of the NAO, 1999 has not been made out,” the top court bench wrote in its ruling.
“The petitioner’s case is one that warrants acquittal, and as a result, the contested Trial Court and High Court rulings.”
