GILGIT: According to a preliminary official assessment, Friday’s glacier ruptured, causing a landslide and subsequent flooding in the Ghizer area of Baltistan (GB), damaging over 300 homes and dozens of shops.
Yesterday morning, an artificial lake was created as a result of another glacial lake outburst (GLOF) that caused extensive damage and floods. Numerous villages were flooded, resulting in significant financial losses. But there were no known human casualties.
According to a district administration report released earlier today (Saturday), there is less concern about additional damage as the water level in the temporary lake formed by the accident has started to drop. In Tildas, Miduri, Mulaabad, 330 homes were impacted by the flood.
