ISLAMABAD: Bushra Bibi, the spouse of Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has objected to the government’s decision to lock her up in the Bani Gala mansion so she can serve a 14-year term in connection with the Toshakhana case.
Bushra Bibi was locked up at her Islamabad home last month after the couple was found guilty of corruption and given a 14-year prison sentence in the Toshakhana case.
At the request of the superintendent of Adiala jail, the Bani Gala mansion was designated as a “sub-jail” by the authorities in order to detain the former first lady.
The decision in the case pertaining to the unlawful sale of state gifts was made public by Judge Muhammad Bashir of the accountability court, who sentenced Bushra and Khan to 14 years in prison apiece.
In addition, the court barred the former prime minister from holding public office for ten years.
In the plea today, Bushra Bibi claimed just like other political activists of the party, she is ready and willing to serve her sentence in the “Ordinary Jail Premises at Adiala Jail, Adiala rather than the declared sub-jail at her residence”.
The former first lady added that because of possible security risks, she does not feel secure being imprisoned on the sub-jail’s property alone.
“Although the petitioner is currently in good health, her sense of insecurity has been heightened by the movement of unidentified individuals in her home, which the government has declared to be a sub-jail.”
Bushra Bibi claimed that the “special treatment” she received was in violation of the Constitution’s guarantee of equality and was consequently discriminatory.
