American football supporters who had been at the triumph parade fled for their lives, creating chaotic scenes outside a former rail station.
Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a radio DJ and mother of two, has been identified as the deceased victim. According to local accounts, one among the injured is her son Marc.
The radio station she worked for, KKFI, released the following statement: “We would want to inform our community that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez, host of Taste of Tejano, passed away today in the shooting at the KC Chiefs’ game. We do this with deep regret and a heavy heart.
“Her family has our deepest sympathies and prayers. We urge anyone with information they believe they may have seen something to call 816 234 5111.
“This senseless act has taken a beautiful person from her family and this KC Community.”
The team had been celebrating with its fans after Sunday’s American football championship game in Las Vegas, where they had defeated the San Francisco 49ers.
A flurry of gunshots outside an old train station in Kansas City, Missouri, caused many of the rally’s attendees to flee for their lives.
All of the victims, including seven who were critically hurt and six who were deemed to be “moderately” wounded, were shot, according to the police. Three different hospitals were handling their care.
