ISLAMABAD: Differences have erupted between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s attorneys and political leadership, with the latter wanting to hold discussions with other parties for a political settlement while the former does not, Geo News said Saturday, citing sources.
Decisions on the current political situation, as well as the creation of governments in the center and provinces, have been delayed for the same reason, according to the sources.
According to sources, the party’s counsels had raised qualms about developing relations with other political parties, notably the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), as evidenced by the absence of PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan from the meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
The legal team’s leadership, including Gohar, did not attend the party’s meeting with the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Qaumi Watan Party.
They added that heated exchanges occurred during a party huddle in Islamabad.
The lawyers have been limited to the party’s legal affairs and lawsuits after refusing to cooperate with the political leadership’s decisions, they claimed. They claimed PTI founder Imran Khan has delegated entire responsibility for political choices to the political leadership. According to the sources, the lawyers had doubts about the political leadership’s policies and meeting with Imran Khan.
On the other hand, PTI leader Asad Qaiser claims that all of the PTI’s legal members have joined forces with the political leadership. “The lawyers must obey the leadership’s and the party’s choices. “The counsels are moving forward in harmony,” he stated.
