KARACHI: After police claimed to have captured the “killer” of Abhan Mazhar, an eight-year-old kid slain in the Federal B Area, Geo News obtained video footage of the youngster walking with his supposed killer.
In three distinct closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, Abhan can be seen holding hands and walking in daylight with his teen cousin Sufyan in Karachi’s popular residential area.
Abhan, who was discovered badly injured inside the Yousuf Plaza police station on Wednesday, died from his injuries at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
According to Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Central Zeeshan Siddiqui, the youngster who is being interviewed was added to the “suspect list” on the first day of the investigation, which was being carried out by two separate police teams as further investigation is underway.
“The suspect confessed to killing the boy because he was scolded many times by his uncle (his mother’s brother) over Abhan’s complaints,” the police officer said on Friday, adding that the suspect admitted to committing the heinous crime after being scolded by his uncle, the victim’s father, over the latter’s complaint.
Sufyan confessed that he picked up Abhan from his home and slit his throat with a knife. He also informed authorities that he was alone when he murdered his cousin and washed the knife before returning it to the kitchen.
I made a mistake. “I was angry because he complained about me to uncle [victim’s father],” the suspect explained.
When asked why he took this step, the suspect stated that his uncle used to reprimand him.
SSP Siddiqui stated that Abhan’s parents had assigned suspect Sufyan the responsibility of caring for him when they were out from home for work.
The officer stated that further investigation was underway to determine further facts about the crime.
