On Sunday, the Habib University (HU) debuted a thought-provoking video on the gift of knowledge in Muslim tradition, exploring the rich legacy of intellectual cultivation in Islamic communities at Arif Habib’s residence.
The documentary, Gift of Knowledge: Empowering Lives Through Islamic Philanthropy, explored the tremendous contribution of Muslim history to knowledge production, prosperity, and scientific achievements, presenting Islam as a true catalyst for progress.
The documentary, which featured philosopher and educationist Javed Ahmad Ghamidi, Associate Professor Comparative Humanities at Habib University Dr. Nauman Naqvi, Associate Professor of African Religious Thought and Democracy at the University of Virginia Dr. Oludamini Ogunnaike, and other renowned Islamic scholars, emphasized the importance of channeling Zakat towards higher education in order to empower Muslim societies.
Leading philanthropists and community leaders such as Amir Peracha, Ehsan A Malik, Jawad Khan, Syeda Leghari, Ali Naqi Taqi, Shamoon Sultan, and Hanif Gohar, as well as other distinguished guests, praised the documentary in support of the university’s mission to ensure that no deserving Pakistani student is denied a quality education due to socioeconomic circumstances.
“The generosity, sacrifice, and empathy of our founding community, as well as our loyal supporters around the world, have set the way for our success. “They, like us, believe that given the right opportunities, talented Pakistani youth can make significant contributions to the country’s development,” HU President Wasif Rizvi stated in response to their support.
Earlier, introducing the guests, host Arif Habib praised the university as a “conduit between gracious people and kids who cannot afford higher education.”. The event concluded with remarks from HU Chancellor Rafiq M. Habib and HU community members Tariq Rafi and Amir Peracha, who emphasized the importance of investing in higher education for the country’s youth now to ensure future prosperity.
