The Greek-owned cargo ship True Confidence was damaged by a missile around 50 nautical miles southwest of the Yemeni port of Aden on Wednesday, in an attack believed to be carried out by Houthi troops, according to the ship’s owner and operator.
The bulk carrier was floating with a fire on board, according to their statement, and no information was available on the status of the 20 crew members and three armed guards on board.
However, a maritime source reported three seamen were missing from the Barbados-flagged bulk vessel, and four others were severely burned.
No one immediately claimed responsibility. Houthi rebels in Yemen have routinely launched drones and missiles on international commercial vessels since mid-November, claiming they are acting in solidarity with Palestinians to resist Israel’s military in Gaza.
