ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub Khan on Monday urged the authorities to reinstate the country’s social media networks.
“They continue to restrict social media today. “We demand that the social media sites be restored,” the PTI leader told reporters in Islamabad.
X, previously Twitter, has been largely prohibited in Pakistan since February 17, with users accessing the popular site via VPN.
Former caretaker communication minister Murtaza Solangi told a local media channel that the interim government had nothing to do with Pakistan’s X shutdown.
“The fascist administration has entirely lost its mind. Various social media platforms, including Facebook, X, and Instagram, are being blocked, and their speed has been slowed,” said Omar.
He said that the sites were being blocked so that the citizens were unable to get their hands on “right and fast information”
