Locals said that military activity continued following the hospital raid, despite the Israel Securities Authority (ISA) and Israel Defence Forces (IDF) claiming that it was a “precise operation to thwart terrorist activity”.
However, the raid was referred to by Palestinian authorities as a “war crime” that claimed several lives.
“Suddenly, we started to hear sounds of explosions, several bombings, and soon tanks started to roll; they came from the western road and headed toward al Shifa,” Mohammad Ali, a resident near the hospital, told Reuters. “After that, sounds of gunfire and explosions increased.”
“We don’t know what is happening, but it looked as if it was a reinvasion of the Gaza City,” he stated.
On Monday, he said, military operations started at about one in the morning local time (11 in the UK).
