Space weather forecasters have issued a geomagnetic storm notice for the entirety of Monday, noting the potential for interference with radio transmissions on Earth as a result of a solar flare-induced plasma explosion.
News noted that although the storm has a notice issued for it, meteorologists have also stated that it may provide excellent opportunities for viewing the aurora.
The Boulder, Colorado-based Space Weather Prediction Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released an advisory on Saturday stating that there is no need for the general population to be alarmed.
The storm may interfere with high-frequency radio signals, which might impact commercial aircraft’s ability to communicate with traffic control towers, according to center forecaster Jonathan Lash.
He added that satellite operators might find it difficult to follow their spacecraft.
