For the second consecutive year in 2025, India is expected to see above-normal monsoon rainfall, the government announced Tuesday, upholding its April projection and preserving the prospect of increased agricultural productivity and economic expansion.
The world’s largest rice exporter will be able to transport more of the staple, food prices will drop, and inflation will stay within the central bank’s comfort zone thanks to good rains.
According to M. Ravichandran, secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, the monsoon is predicted to reach 106% of the long-term average this year.
For the four-month season from June to September, the India Meteorological Department defines typical rainfall as falling between 96% and 104% of a 50-year average of 87 cm (35 inches).
