SYDNEY: Following floods that destroyed over 10,000 buildings and claimed five lives, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Saturday that cleanup has started in the southeast of the nation.
On social networking platform X, Albanese stated, “We’re continuing to work closely across federal, state, and local governments to make sure Australians get the support they need now and through recovery.”
Floods this week shut off communities, carried away animals, and wrecked homes in the hard-hit mid-north coast region of New South Wales, and damage assessments were underway, according to the state’s emergency services agency. It was projected that the damage might have affected at least 10,000 properties.
According to the agency, conditions in the impacted regions of Australia’s most populous state have improved since Friday.
