The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has issued a high alert and made all the required preparations to protect port operations and cargo during the anticipated period of heavy rainfall as monsoon clouds hang over the city.
In preparation for the advent of the monsoon, preemptive safety and operational measures have been implemented, according to KPT sources. During their time in port, ships will be attentively watched and safely berthed. The quick provision of emergency help is ensured by the deployment of mooring lines and standby tugboats.
In order to reduce the risk to marine traffic in the case of severe weather, a KPT advisory also noted that a standby pilot will be on call 24/7 to assist in guiding ships into the deep sea.
