A man who the police said was carrying blades was holding four people captive in the town of Ede.
After an hours-long standoff, the balaclava-wearing man exited the cafe petticoat with his hands raised, only to be told to kneel by armed police.
After that, he was put in a waiting police car while wearing handcuffs and a blindfold.
To determine whether the suspect’s knapsack had explosives, it is being investigated.
About an hour before the man was taken into custody, three hostages—thought to be nightclub employees—were spotted leaving the facility with their hands up over their heads.
A section of Ede had previously been cordoned off by heavily armed police, who also gave residents the advice to “stay inside and do not come and watch” in addition to “stay away.”
As authorities dealt with “a hostage situation involving several people,” about 150 surrounding residences were evacuated, according to police.
