They arrived at Universal Express on Morley Street unarmed. “[We] didn’t have a chance,” claimed her colleague, PC Teresa Milburn, aged 37, who was following closely.
As she reached the door, 38-year-old PC Beshenivsky “stopped in terror” upon seeing the gunman. She was shot in the chest at close range and instantly died from her injuries as she fell to the ground.
PC Milburn “felt immense pain and knew straight away I had been shot,” the victim reported, as the robber then aimed his revolver at her. “I was thrown around by the second shot’s ferocity. The force was astounding.”
While lying on the pavement in “extreme pain” and coughing up blood, she was able to radio for aid, but the ambulance didn’t arrive in time to save her colleague.
