LAHORE: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi claimed on Monday that Amir Sarfraz Tamba, who is accused of torturing an Indian terrorist named Sarabjit Singh to death while he was incarcerated in 2013, was likely the target of an attack by India.
“Police are looking into the firing on Amir Tamba, and they believe India is responsible so far. India also has a similar pattern of involvement in four other murder cases. But until the inquiry is over, it won’t be appropriate to comment,” he told the media at the Federal inquiry Agency (FIA) office in Lahore.
According to authorities, Tamba was shot and killed by two motorbike riders on Sunday inside the Islampura police station.
Police filed a complaint on behalf of Tamba’s brother Junaid Sarfraz against the unidentified bikers.surrounded the area with tape and began using CCTV video to find the shooters.
Tamba and Mudasir Munir are accused of attacking Sarabjit Singh in Kot Lakhpat jail in April 2013 using bricks and iron rods. Singh received a death sentence in 1990 for a string of bombings in Lahore and Faisalabad that left 14 people dead.
All witnesses withdrew their statements, and on December 14, 2018, a sessions court in Lahore cleared Tamba and Munir of the accusation of killing Singh and ordered their freedom.
