The first baby born in Australia from a transplanted uterus was born thanks to a mother who created history.
On December 15, little Henry Bryant, born via caesarean section, weighed a healthy 2.9 kilograms when he arrived at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney.
As part of an innovative research project, Kirsty Bryant, a mother from the NSW Mid North Coast, underwent an unprecedented 16-hour operation in January to receive a uterus from her mother, Michelle. She was pleasantly pleased to find herself carrying a kid just three months after an embryo was put into the same womb that had once supported her.
