BEIJING: In order to fully realize the region’s potential for long-term development and prosperity, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member nations have been urged to work together by Senator Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
In a meeting with SCO Secretary-General Ambassador Zhang Ming in Beijing, where the foreign minister arrived on Monday, Dar emphasized this point.
He is in China for four days to co-chair the Fifth Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue, which will discuss all aspects of relations between the two countries. The other co-chair is Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi.
FM Dar reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast adherence to the SCO Charter and the core principles of the Organization as stated in the “Shanghai Spirit”. He affirmed Pakistan’s steadfast dedication to furthering the security and development cooperation goals of the SCO.
Pakistan’s initiatives and contributions during its current presidency of the SCO Council of Heads of Government were also discussed.
During the meeting, Ambassador Zhang wished the Pakistani government well on its assumption of power and reaffirmed the SCO Secretariat’s unwavering support for Pakistan while it serves as the organization’s Chair of the Heads of Government.
