“Build it, and hopefully they will come,” is the sentiment held by Emma Lingard, a local who is currently a manager at Grimsby Docks’ owners, Associated British Ports (ABP). Emma used to work on television.
ABP established the Kasbah Film Quarter, centered on some of its historic structures, after realizing the area’s potential. The idea is to grow by constructing a highly sought-after asset in the UK: a sound stage for soundproof TV and film recording, together with production hubs.
“Every location manager or producer that has contacted us has complained about how expensive London is,” she says. They’re exploring up north because they’re discovering that there are too many other productions vying for the same place.
