US Chargé d’Affaires Andrew J. Schofer emphasized on Monday how important higher education institutions are to Pakistan’s economic growth.
“Institutions of higher learning are crucial to Pakistan’s prosperity. In his opening remarks at the three-day International Summit on Higher Education, Chargé d’affaires Schofer stated that “both individuals and society prosper when universities deliver equitable education, provide youth with employment-ready skills, and lead in applied research and innovation.”
Along with University of Utah professors and Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HECP), Schofer officially opened the three-day event in Islamabad.
Over 180 academics and administrators from American and Pakistani universities come together for this USAID-funded conference to work together, share knowledge, and form partnerships to raise the standard of higher education. The summit is a component of the $19 million Higher Education System Strengthening Activity funded by USAID, which helps 16 public universities in Pakistan enhance student support services, market-relevant curriculum, and higher education administration.
