Vine sued Barton, 41, for libel and harassment in the High Court on Tuesday after he made false accusations and used several insults in internet posts. Barton then issued an apology and agreed to pay the amount. Vine is a Radio 2 presenter, 59.
However, Vine later tweeted, saying, “The news of Joey Barton’s apology and commitment to pay damages and costs is not the final outcome of this case.”
He clarified that Barton had been given the option to settle out of court for “£75k, plus my costs” and an apology by his legal team.
Vine, however, responded, saying: “He disregarded that offer and continued to tweet deplorable things about me, including disclosing my home location to his followers.
“A judge decided that TEN of the tweets I had complained about were defamatory when I later took my case to the High Court. After we lost, Barton came back to our offer from tweet 5.
Barton will pay further damages for tweets 6–10, which have prompted a parallel action. There are still a lot of actions that need to be done, such as making apologetic remarks in court.
