The federal government’s spokesperson on legal affairs, Barrister Aqeel Malik, issued a warning that the state would crack down on individuals launching anti-state campaigns on social media in an effort to sour Pakistan’s relations with friendly nations. The warning appeared to be directed towards the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The PTI should stop its “anti-state activities and propaganda,” he said, and engage in political discourse with the government to discuss potential solutions rather than jeopardizing the interests of the country abroad.
This was said by the spokesperson during a news conference to inform the media about the political party’s foreign anti-state initiatives.
According to Barrister Malik, the PTI’s “enmity as it was perpetrating anti-Pakistan legislation in foreign countries” had never been seen before.
“Pakistan is an autonomous nation that does not accept orders from other states. We desire cordial ties with every country.
He added that the PTI had employed lobbyists and PR firms to advance the anti-Pakistan campaign overseas. “However, a concentrated smear campaign against Pakistan in foreign countries that started after the 2022 vote of no confidence which mounted the anti-Pakistan propaganda,” he said.
In November 2023, Congressman McCormick introduced Resolution 901 in the US Congress, claiming that it was entirely connected to the Pakistan Terrorist Organization (PTI). He further stated that the PTI was behind all anti-Pakistan legislation and that the Pakistani diaspora living abroad, who were deeply associated with the party, were being exploited for the PTI’s covert purposes.
