At least 11 individuals, including migrants from Pakistan, are said to have perished in boat capsizing incidents that continue to claim lives. The vessel sank close to the shore of Italy.
In the Mediterranean marine on Monday, 51 people were saved from a wooden boat approximately 90 kilometers south of the island of Lempedusa, according to the German marine rescue organization RESQSHIP.
Ten victims were discovered trapped on the ship’s lower deck.
The migrants’ boat was on the verge of capsizing, posing a serious hazard to the rescuers, according to Ingo Werth, the captain of the rescue vessel “Nadir.”
Aid workers were informed by the passengers that the majority of the migrants were from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Syria, and Egypt, and that they had sailed from the Libyan port of Zuwarah two days prior.
Three bodies discovered close to a migrant shipwreck
On Tuesday, there was news of another migrant shipwreck between Italy and Greece; three dead bodies were found off the coast of Italy, and 64 more were reported missing.
Eleven individuals have been saved from the second boat thus far.
Two patrol boats, one ship, and an aircraft were sent out to look for the missing passengers, which included 26 unaccounted-for youngsters, according to the Italian coast guard.
About the three bodies that were recovered, no other details have been made public.
