During the East-West Media Conference in Manila, Philippines, on Monday, senior Pakistani journalist and media expert Kamal Siddiqi was given the esteemed Journalists Courage and Impact Award.
He is the first journalist from Pakistan to be honored with this honor from the East-West Center.
With more than 26 years of experience in journalism and media training, Siddiqi was one of the seven recipients of the award, which recognizes individuals who have dedicated their lives to press freedom and journalism, often in the face of adversity.
Numerous readers have been informed and motivated by the seasoned journalist’s perceptive writing and unwavering dedication to the truth, raising the bar for journalism.
His contributions to excellence through media education and training, as well as his work in print, digital, and broadcast media, were noted in the citation issued in his honor.
His contributions to media freedom and regional journalist networking were also highlighted.
At the moment, Siddiqi is employed by the Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF) with a focus on South Asia as a senior program officer. Prior to this, he was the director of news for a Pakistani new-age private channel.
