LAHORE: A day after preventing certain legislators from attending 15 sessions of the provincial legislature due to disturbance, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan announced on Saturday the creation of an ethics committee to rid the house of hooliganism.
The purpose of the ethics committee’s formation is to enhance the atmosphere of the assembly. Speaking before today’s meeting, the speaker stated, “The body will work to maintain the decorum.”
Khan made reference to the yelling by opposition members during Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s speech at Friday’s Punjab Assembly session, saying that the assembly’s decorum has been declining daily because of the people there.
According to the speaker of the Punjab Assembly, at least 20 “troublemakers” have been excluded from the assembly.
He promised not to allow the atmosphere in the provincial legislature to continue to deteriorate and said that neither rowdiness nor immoral slogans would be allowed in the chamber.
Khan asserted that it was his responsibility to govern the house well and that he had the power to remove obstructions to the smooth operation of sessions.
If the lawmakers bent so low and used derogatory language, he threatened to utilize his power.
