There is no denying China played a significant role in the establishment and management of the bases, according to Rep. Carlos Gimenez, R-Fla., in an interview on Wednesday.
Once the images were made public by the politically neutral Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Gimenez went into further detail, pointing out that China’s official actions in the region “remain[s] shrouded in secrecy.”
Gimenez expressed concerns about counterintelligence, pointing out that only his district is home to the Key West Naval Air Station, Homestead Air Force Base, and the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) is only a mile away.
According to Gimenez, “this is an example of the growing influence of China and Russia in our hemisphere.”
He claimed that rather than making every effort to bring about a peaceful regime change, the Biden administration is still seeking to appease our enemies in the hemisphere.
“America must respond with strength and tell the Cuban regime that we will not allow them to restart this new Cold War right on our doorstep,” Salazar stated.
