Political experts and observers have discussed the potential political fallout from the Supreme Court’s decision to rule in favor of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), granting the party reserved seats.
The Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) ruling, which had backed the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to deny the SIC the reserved seats, was overturned by the 13-member full court bench’s 8–5 majority opinion.
“The March 25 ruling from the PHC is overturned. The ruling stated, “The ECP’s March 1 order is deemed to be ultra vires to the Constitution, lacking legitimate authority, and having no legal significance.”Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa and Justices Yahya Afridi, Amin-ud-Din Khan, Jamal Khan Mandokhail, and Naeem Akhtar Afghan are among the judges who disapproved of the majority ruling.
