In Sindh’s Nausharoferoz district, a woman was brutally attacked and physically tortured by her family after she filed a lawsuit against her husband, according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP).
The victim, Sobia Batool Shah, was beaten on Friday in the name of patriarchal “honour” by her father and uncles, who brandished axes against her for seeking a divorce from an abusive marriage.
Human rights organization X expressed worry about the occurrence and stated that this instance should serve as a warning that gender-based violence has long been accepted in patriarchal countries like Pakistan’s.”We want the Sindh government to make sure Batool gets the finest care possible, considering her dire situation. The HRCP stressed, “The people who committed this crime must be held accountable.”
The victim of the physical torture suffered from significant physical and psychological stress that could leave her permanently disabled, possibly even preventing her from ever being able to walk again.
Sobia was hurt and left screaming for help in a pool of blood by her father, Syed Mustafa Shah, and her uncles, Syed Qurban Shah, Ehsan Shah, Shah Nawaz, and Mushtaq Shah. All of them were carrying axes.
Sobia had reported to the authorities that her husband would frequently mistreat their family and never take responsibility for them.
