According to Dawn.com, Ziaul Haq Sarhadi, the PAJCCI coordinator for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the deadline for Afghan truck drivers to obtain TAD was set on July 31 and it expired on Wednesday night.
“Until July 15, Pakistan has allowed Afghan drivers to obtain TAD. Then, at the Afghan side’s request, it was extended until July 31,” Sarhadi stated.
He claimed that starting on August 1, Afghan officials had instructed Pakistan to prevent drivers without TAD from crossing the border.
“Nevertheless, the Afghan side also stopped Pakistan’s trucks from entering Afghanistan when Pakistan began enforcing the decision and stopped Afghan drivers who did not have TAD,” he stated.
The closure of Torkham for cargo trucks was also verified by Abdul Salam Jawad, a spokesman for the Afghanistan Commerce Ministry.
