This monsoon season, Sukkur, in Sindh, has seen disastrous rains that have broken the city’s “77-year record” with 290mm of rain in a single day.
According to a provincial authorities’ official statement released on Sunday, Sukkur recorded 290mm of rainfall in a single day during the current spell, compared to 374mm in 12 days in 2022.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) chief meteorologist, Sardar Sarfaraz, called the report that Sukkur had record-breaking rainfall “wrong” earlier on Monday.
“In 48 hours, Sukkur recorded 116mm of rain. “134mm of rain was recorded in Rohri, near Sukkur,” he stated in an interview with Geo News.
