ISLAMABAD: In a case involving audio leaks involving Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, and Najamul Saqib, the son of former chief justice Mian Saqib Nisar, the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday accepted the federal government’s appeal and directed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to halt proceedings until further orders.
The Center’s appeal against the IHC judgment in the audio leaks case was considered today by a two-judge panel of the highest court, which is made up of Justices Amin-Ud-Din Khan and Naeem Akhtar Afghan.
The top court was informed at the beginning of the hearing by Additional Attorney General Amir Rehman that an IHC judgment dated May 29 had prohibited the relevant agencies from tapping phones. He went on to say that the IHC’s decision, which also precluded the intelligence services from making any terrorist arrests, prevented them from conducting counterintelligence.
According to the government’s attorney, the high court has also barred the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) from recording phone conversations or tapping into them (CDR).
