Excessive heat warnings and advisories were issued by the National Weather Service for vast portions of Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Mid-Atlantic states including West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
The weather service issued a warning of “dangerously hot conditions” and predicted temperatures as high as 110 to 115F (43–46C) in several areas, including Chicago. Heat index values are calculated by factoring in humidity as well as perceived heat.
However, with colder temperatures predicted to arrive starting on Wednesday, several parts of the US were expecting relief shortly.
Although the middle of the country is still very hot, significantly colder air is currently in the area.
In Chicago, Darrell Taylor, 61, lives in an apartment without air conditioning, despite the temperature hitting a record-breaking 98F (36C). He compared the situation to that of an oven and claimed that not even two fans running would assist.
I wiped my face with a cold towel. He remarked, “It’s only working a little bit,” and then he went to hide in a relative’s airconditioned house.
