In a raid on Apollo Quiboloy’s expansive church compound, police have been trying to apprehend the man who says he is the “Appointed Son of God.”.
Thousands of his supporters and anti-riot police officers got into violent altercations, and one church member passed away from a heart attack during the raid.
Mr. Quiboloy has refuted all of the accusations made against him. His Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) claims seven million adherents.
The US Department of Justice (DOJ) filed charges against Mr. Quiboloy in 2021, accusing him of importing large amounts of cash, fraud, and coercion.
According to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), he brought women and girls into the country illegally from the Philippines and compelled them to seek donations for a fictitious organization.
According to the FBI, he also demanded that his female “pastorals,” or personal aides, have sex with him.
However, during this entire time, Mr. Quiboloy—who had previously acted as the prior leader’s spiritual adviser—was becoming more and more well-known across the country under then-President Rodrigo Duterte.
But things took a turn for the better when Mr. Duterte resigned in June 2022.
The authorities in the Philippines soon accused him of child abuse, child trafficking, and child sex abuse. An arrest warrant was issued for him.
