Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was criticized by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif for not publicly denouncing Israeli brutality towards the Palestinian people, following an Israeli publication’s suggestion that Khan should reconsider Pakistan’s position on Israel.

The defense minister was alluding to an editorial piece, “An Unlikely Ally: How Imran Khan Could Shape Israeli-Pakistani Relations,” that appeared in The Times of Israel. This article led Khan’s political opponents to charge that Khan was softening Pakistan’s long-standing anti-Israel position.

Speaking to News, Asif stated, “Israeli media has written in favor of the PTI founder, which endangers our [national] image as Pakistan has an important position in the Muslim world.”
