In a case that has outraged France, Dominique Pelicot is accused of having recruited the men on a chat room named “without her knowing”.
In the southern French city of Avignon, the 71-year-old is on trial for aggravated rape alongside fifty other males.
Beatrice Zavarro, his defense attorney, stated that her client “is not trying to shirk his responsibility, he will not shirk his responsibility”.
According to sources who spoke with News, the defendant complained of stomach trouble, and the judge ordered that he get checked out at the hospital.
When Dominique Pelicot will testify and any potential delays this may cause to the trial will be decided later in the day.
Ms. Zavarro continued, saying that on Friday, her client began exhibiting symptoms that would indicate a bladder infection or colic.
When the police discovered the years of alleged abuse, Ms. Pelicot testified last Thursday, saying her entire world fell apart.
“For me, everything collapses,” she added, referring to the moment she realized her ex-spouse had reportedly recorded the alleged attacks by dozens of guys on camera. These are scenes of rape and barbarism.
