The federal government asked for the money to be released to the federation and the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) during the Supreme Court’s hearing on the Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand dams finances dispute on Wednesday.
A separate petition asking for the transfer of the monies has been filed for this purpose, Additional Attorney General (AAG) Aamir Rehman told the court. He added that the State Bank of Pakistan opened the account while being supervised by the Supreme Court.
The State Bank of Pakistan was in charge of the account while the Supreme Court of Pakistan oversaw its management. The monies in question were first raised through a campaign that the court started in 2018.
Pakistan’s Chief Justice, Qazi Faez Isa, asked how much money was in the dams overall.
