The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has declared that it would be enforcing tough penalties on those who do not file income tax returns. The first set of these penalties will begin on October 1, 2024.
The action is a component of the government’s larger initiatives to boost compliance and expand the revenue base.
FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial announced during a press briefing that the much-discussed “non-filer” category would be eliminated, putting an end to methods that let people avoid paying taxes in exchange for small fines.
He announced that non-filers will be subject to 15 particular restrictions, the first five of which are intended to crack down on tax evasion.
