Following the recent Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) intra-party elections in Quetta, Senator Maulana Abdul Wasi has been crowned as the new Provincial Amir of Balochistan.
Maulana Wasi garnered an astounding total of 1,013 votes, while his challenger, Hafiz Hamdullah, only managed 453 votes.
Under the direction of Maulana Ataul Haq Darwish, the central convener, the polls were conducted in a private marriage hall. 1,750 members from all over Balochistan took part in the election, demonstrating the party’s significant grassroots participation.
Maulana Agha Mehmood Shah won 1,065 votes to defeat Maulana Inayatullah Rudini, who garnered 401 votes, in the race for general secretary.
Tensions plagued the event despite the high voter turnout, with supporters from both sides yelling slogans.
