Senator Irfan Siddiqui of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has expressed grave reservations about recent decisions made by the Supreme Court, especially those pertaining to reserved seats. He has questioned the judiciary’s interpretation of the constitution and its authority to overturn laws.
Siddiqui said at a press conference in Islamabad that laws are routinely overturned on the grounds that they violate the constitution, which creates a precedent of judicial overreach. He went on to say that judges are not a “tribe of prophets” who are impervious to criticism.
Siddiqui drew attention to the recent rule on reserved seats and its associated controversy, claiming that the order had multiple errors and posed several problems. He underlined that the PML-N will not back down from its commitment to the supremacy of the constitution, even while it respects the judiciary.
