But the JUI-F said nothing in response, and party leaders refrained from officially reiterating or endorsing Mr. Rehman’s assertions.
The head of JUI-F, who met with leading TV anchors at his home on Wednesday, made suggestions that he would be in favor of the creation of a constitutional court as well as other changes to the legal system, such as limiting the term of the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to three years.
According to media sources, Mr. Rehman said that modifications shouldn’t be made based on an individual’s circumstances even if he didn’t completely reject the government’s plans. While advising caution against hurrying the constitutional reforms, he also indicated his desire to persuade the PTI, the main opposition party, on the issue.
Party leaders have not released an official position on the subject, and JUI-F has not spoken up.
